The big five: I won't travel to any more weddings without these products

95 percent of a successful wedding is the responsibility of the bride and groom, that's clear. However, the remaining five percent – which unfortunately fall under your own responsibility – should not be underestimated. A small checklist for your next celebration.

Received a wedding invitation, need to RSVP, and show up? You can't be serious. I attended four weddings this summer, am traveling to a fifth this weekend, and have learned the hard way that there is a lot more to it than that.

To make your next "We’re getting married 🥳" experience go more smoothly, I’ve put together a cheat sheet based on the most important coordinates, aka products, from my learning curve. The best part: almost all of them are Galaxus-tested.

Disclaimer: My circle of friends belongs to the "go big or go home" faction. Meaning, if there's a wedding, it's in a picturesque setting and lasts for several days. My recommendations are designed with that in mind.

The Steamer

I'll skip the tedious, almost painful search for an outfit that meets all the dress code criteria. But once you've found one, you want it to be presented in its best possible version. The secret weapon for this: a garment steamer.
I personally swear by the small but powerful travel steamer from Philips. It's my plug-in plus-one, so to speak. Various other guests have already been grateful for its presence.

The Anti-Blister Stick

You need painful blisters at a wedding just as little as you need an interruption during the "...speak now or forever hold your peace" moment. That's why the self-proclaimed favorite product of my colleague Stephanie Vinzens is one of the first things that lands in my handbag: the Compeed Anti-Blister Stick.
Simply apply the protective balm to the vulnerable areas and party carefree until someone politely asks you to finally go to sleep.

The Eye Patches

If Natalie Hemengül recommends a beauty product, I know it’s actually worth it. Exhibit A: the vitamin C-loaded eye patches from Goodal. She promised a cooling, de-puffing effect, plump skin, and an always-welcome glow. I got a cooling, de-puffing effect, plump skin, and an always-welcome glow. Worth it on the day of and, above all, the morning after the celebration!

The Fan

You might have already read here that I’m not a fan of those small, ubiquitous handheld electric fans. I find prettily patterned fans much more stylish, especially in the setting of a hot summer wedding. They fit even into a handy, usually impractical party clutch, never threaten to run out of battery, and won't end up as electronic waste sooner or later. Enough said.

The Fashion Tape

The only product for which there isn't an existing recommendation yet. But I’m giving you one now: pack double-sided tape from, excuse me, Booby Tape. The strips are incredibly easy to use and keep the fabric of your dress or top exactly where you want it on your body. Unwanted wardrobe malfunctions will be a thing of the past.
