Money launderer, construction machine driver and demon scarer are the jobs on offer this May to enhance your gamer CV.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was the undisputed game highlight in May ten years ago. This time round, there’s also an epic role-playing game with an open game world on offer – for a number of players at once.

Shotgun Cop Man – guns as a means of transport

If you know My Friend Pedro, you know what you’re in for. Hot on the heels of the Max Payne 2D shooter comes something else for fans of this genre. But here, the guns are more like tools that let you navigate through increasingly tricky levels in this platformer.

When: 1 May
Where: PC, Switch

Drop Duchy – rogue meets Tetris

This title offers a mixture of Roguelite, card game and Tetris, where your duchy is made up of a grid. You place blocks Tetris-style to create buildings, collect resources and recruit troops to fight against attacking armies.

When: 5 May
Where: PC
Multiplayer: no

Metal Eden – think shooting, not snacking

In this frenetic sci-fi shooter, you use all kinds of futuristic weapons and gadgets to fight against the forces of an artificial world that’s become a death trap for its citizens. It promises great graphics and lots of action.

When: 6 May
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: no

The Midnight Walk – certainly not one in the park

Studio MoonHood is responsible for one of the best and most imaginative adventure games of recent years with Lost in Random. So I’m really excited to see what its latest title has to offer. You explore a wondrous world together with a a lost lantern creature and need to outwit all kinds of scary monsters along the way. The makers achieved their unusual graphic style by using 3D scans of real clay sculptures.

When 8 May
Where: PC, PCVR, PS5, PSVR 2
Multiplayer: no

Revenge of the Savage Planet – shenanigans in space

The sequel to Journey to the Savage Planet retains its satirical sci-fi setting. You can now explore colourful planets in co-op mode, rummage for resources and kick fluffy aliens around.

When 8 May
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: online co-op for four people

Sonic Rumble – which hedgehog is the fastest?

Sonic Rumble is a free battle royale with the blue hedgehog and all his friends. It reminds me a bit of Fall Guys. You have to win against 31 other players in various disciplines. At the end, there can only be one.

When 8 May
Where: PC, iOS, Android
Multiplayer: online for up to 32 people

Cash Cleaner Simulator – no softener needed

Talk about a fresh game idea. In this title, you launder money, in the truest sense of the word. As a petty criminal, you’ll be sent dirty money from your underworld contacts. Your job is to clean the blood and dirt off it and deal with counterfeit notes.

When 8 May
Where: PC, in Q4 also for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Dunk Dunk – basketball that’s out of this world

This is a brightly coloured, crazy 2D basketball game that also requires platforming skills. You’ve got eight arenas at your fingertips, from an underwater lab to a dinosaur world and an abandoned space station. The «dunkers», i.e. the playable characters, include figures from other games such as Overcooked and Lil Gator Game.

When 8 May
Where: PC, Switch
Multiplayer: online and local, co-op and PvP

The Precinct – cop simulator

At first glance, this game is reminiscent of the first two GTA instalments. However, here you play a cop rather than a gangster. Compare this to GTA, where you take part in heated chases in an infamous US city in 1983. If the car stops, you have to swap your wheels for legs to catch the villains. Ideally, you arrest them correctly, which means checking their ID and handcuffing them, rather than shooting around wildly.

When: 13 May
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: no

Void Sails – anchors aweigh

Steer your rocket-powered sailing ship through a magical world with floating islands, caves full of treasure and hijackers you can blast away with your cannons.

When: 14 May
Where: PC
Multiplayer: no

Doom: The Dark Ages – demonically good

The Doom Slayer is going to continue slaughtering, and not just with guns. You can now spin a shield around, swing a spiked mace and even ride a dragon. I’ve played it already and thought it was pretty cool.

When: 15 May
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: no

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 – thrashing circa 20 years ago

Eight classic fighting games are included in this collection. Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001, Project Justice and 3D action games like Power Stone are waiting to dish out retro slaps.

RoadCraft – a sandpit for excavator fans

In this game you use a number of construction machines to help rebuild a region damaged by natural disasters. Think heavy transporters, portal cranes, pavers, cable layers and the like. And best of all, you can putter through the muddy landscape with friends.

When: 20 May
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: online co-op

Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time – job juggler

Monster Train 2 – carriage only stops for card fans

This is a turn-based card game where you fight your way through a train with your creatures. Part two offers five new clans, numerous new cards for your deck and lots of customisations for your train.

This title features lots of equipment, which allows for different gaming styles. You use your weapons to hit monstrosities on the head and set out on your mission to defeat the queen.

When: 22 May
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: no

Deliver At All Costs – the racing courier

This is a game that promises a hell of a lot of fun and nonsense. You take on the role of a courier with strange deliveries, including a live sawfish, an atomic bomb and a giant wrecking ball that leaves a trail of destruction in its wake. Overall, the title offers a stunning destruction model.

When: 22 May
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: no

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown – toads with strategy

Strange Scaffold obviously doesn’t like to stick to one genre. This studio developed the slow-motion shooter El Paso, Elsewhere, the ultra weird Clickolding and now a turn-based tactics game in the form of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown. You control the legendary turtles in the fight against new threats after the deaths of Splinter and Shredder. Visually, it’s a mixture of classic cartoon and board game.

Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny – turning old into new

The PS2 game from 2002 is undergoing modernisation. HD graphics and improved controls make Capcom’s cult action adventure accessible to a new audience. Equally, fans of the original can also look forward to reliving the story without having to dig out Sony’s old console.

to a T – you know what letter to give me

From the creators of Katamari Damacy comes the next extremely unusual game. You’re a teenager whose body is in the shape of a letter T. But that doesn’t seem to be a problem for him and his cute canine companion when it comes to coping with small town life.

When: 28 May
Where: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Multiplayer: yes

Lost Soul Aside – awaken the dragon within

No, this isn’t a new Final Fantasy, even if the protagonist’s spiky hairstyle is incredibly reminiscent of it. But you’d be forgiven for thinking so given the invaders from another dimension and a rebel force going up against a nasty emperor. The battles are in real time. There are also epic weapons, lots of combo options and powerful magic attacks thanks to a dragon.

When: 30 May
Where: PC, PS5
Multiplayer: no

Elden Ring Nightreign – co-op without any mods

It’ll be a while before Elden Ring 2 is released. Especially since FromSoftware is working on not just one but two multiplayer spin-offs. The Duskbloods will only be launched for the Switch 2 in 2026 at the earliest, but Elden Ring Nightreign will be out soon so you can join your friends in battle. You face ever greater challenges in teams of three. It probably plays like Elden Ring if Elden Ring only consisted of boss fights.

Multiplayer: online co-op for three people

Disney Illusion Island Starring Mickey & Friends – Disney dream team

Mickey and his friends have to get three mystical books back from the mysterious island of Monoth. This involves fighting, puzzling it over and a lot of jumping. Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
