A 2.5 inch NAS is less in demand than those that can accommodate both disk sizes. So it is unlikely that Synology will bring out new models quickly, if at all. Also, these slim NAS were always technically very modestly equipped, whether an expansion for 10 GBit/s would fit in there is also rather unlikely. I wouldn't get my hopes up and simply equip a DS1522+ with 2.5 inch hard drives. It also fits 5 x2.5 inch disks, with Seagate Barracuda 5 TB disks you get a net capacity of about 20 TB and this NAS can be upgraded to a maximum of 32 GB RAM.
