Yes, according to my research, the occupied RAM slot can be replaced with a DDR4-3200, SO-DIMM 260 pin module. Apparently 8Gb are soldered and 8Gb are currently available in the slot, so with your proposed stick, there would be a total of 40Gb of RAM in the system. 

Lenovo is very open to Ubuntu and keeps a list of supported devices:

Unfortunately, the ThinkBook 14 G3 is not yet listed or tested.
