The additional Ethernet channel allows for the connection of internet-capable AV components to the home network using only an HDMI cable. Therefore, it is sufficient for the television to be connected to the network via cable. The AV receiver or Blu-ray player will then receive both the actual video signal and the network through the HDMI cable. This eliminates the need for a network switch and additional cables.
