Can this article be used by a Mac and a PC?

Yes, you just need to format the disk in NTFS format to use it under Windows and in Mac OS Extended (journaled) or Mac OS Extended (journaled, encrypted) format to use it under Mac. Since macOS High Sierra, it is also possible to use the new APFS format.

Unfortunately, this product has been replaced by a new model with an incredibly beautiful design that you have rarely seen, which is ideal for installation in the kitchen or bathroom floor (/sarcasm off): WD My Passport Ultra (1000GB) The metal edition in silver is apparently still available: WD My Passport Ultra Metal (2000GB)

As far as I know, this should work because the external hard drive requires a 3.0 usb connection and the tv has one of these. In addition, all hard drives are built in such a way that they are recognised immediately, just like an usb stick.
