Do I need another Garmin device to use this temperature sensor or can I pair it with a Garmin app at best?

I bought the mini device some time ago, but still can't manage to pair it. I'm trying with a Garmin Fénix 5X plus. I can find the device in the settings, but after a few seconds of searching, the watch reports that no device was found. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have already changed the battery.
